THE
NAUGLE FAMILY TREE
TRACING THE GENEALOGY OF
AARON FRANKLIN NAUGLE
AND
ELMIRA ELIZABETH (MILLER) NAUGLE
Introduction
The earliest information which we have found concerning the Naugle family, comes from Mr. Beryl Naugle of Richmond, Virginia and Florida. According to him, the Naugles were ship supply merchants in Holland and came to the United States in 1732. Arriving in the United States, they settled on the East-West Turnpike in Pennsylvania and adopted as their new profession, the operation of a roadside tavern.
In 1791, John Phillips Naugle was born in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. John, married Rosanna Driesbach, daughter of Yost Driesbach. Rosanna was born in 1804, in Nescopeck Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, and together she and John had seven children.
Theodore Naugle was the third child of John and Rosanna, and was born in Nescopeck Township on April 4, 1826. He married Sarah Keen in 1854. Sarah was the daughter of Frederick and Mary Bloss Keen, and was born in Nescopeck Township on November 9, 1830. Theodore and Sarah lived as farmers near Zenith, Pennsylvania where all of their nine children were born. Later they moved to Nuremberg, Pennsylvania where they spent the remainder of their lives. Theodore died on December 11, 1907 and Sarah died on June 29, 2909. They are both buried in the cemetery at Nuremberg.
Aaron Franklin Naugle was the eighth of the nine children of Theodore and Sarah Naugle. It is the genealogy of Aaron to which the balance of this book is devoted.
