Mrs. Eloise Williamson Newhard, age 76 of Stone Mountain , Georgia died Friday, August 20, 2010 . She was born January 17, 1934 in Beaumont , Texas to Carmen Alan Williamson and Edna Joe Youngblood. Mrs. Newhard was a 1951 graduate of South Park High School in Beaumont , Texas . She attended the University of Maryland in Munich , Germany ; Panola Junior College in Carthage , Texas ; American University in Washington , DC ; the University of Miami in Miami , Florida ; and Georgia State University in Atlanta , Georgia . She finished her Bachelor’s Degree at Georgia State University in 1971 with a major in Political Science and a minor in History. Mrs. Newhard graduated from Emory Law School in 1977, having her own practice from 1977 to 2004 in Decatur , Georgia . She was a member of the Georgia Bar Association and the DeKalb Bar Association. Mrs. Newhard was a member of the League of Women Voters and a long-time member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church , where she served on numerous committees, including past chairman on the Child Development Advisory Board. She was the chair of the DeKalb YWCA in 1986. She was also a member of the Friday Night Bridge Club, an avid reader, and a Civil War buff. Mrs. Newhard is survived by her husband of 54 years Jack Newhard; daughters, Cynthia Deakin and her husband Tom, Kathy Whitmer and her husband Bobby, all of Lilburn, GA; grandchildren, Laura, Michael and Chris Deakin, Johnathan and James Whitmer; sisters, Elaine Dodgen of Richardson, Texas, Mildred Kyle of Carthage, Texas, Carmen Cudd of Marietta, Georgia, and Ann Turner of Houston, Texas; brother, Don Williamson of Henderson, Nevada, Funeral services will be held Friday, August 27, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Louis Miller officiating. The body will lie in state beginning at 2 P.M. Interment will follow at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery . In lieu of flowers, well-wishers are asked to send contributions to Oak Grove United Methodist Church or Hospice Atlanta. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 26th from 7 until 9 P.M. in the church parlor.
