William's Father

William H. Swiger is my great great grandfather. I am questioning your listing of John Bates as his father. During a chat with my grandfather in 1975, Everett Swiger (died in 1983), he stated to me that William (his grandfather) may not have lived with John Bates and Lovinia Swiger his mother. Do you have any documentation showing that John Bates was indeed William's father? Also, I am trying to locate a marriage certificate or license for John and Lovinia to determine when they were married. Any help appreciated.

I received the information about John Bates being William's father from the
familytreemaker.genealogy.com the descendants of John William Swiger. It states
she met John Bates but doesn't say they married or have a date. I have checked
the WV website and have not found a marriage license and have also checked the
courthouses in Harrison, Doddridge and Wetzel counties for information and have
not found any documentation stating they were married.
