Sybil Cooper Douglas
Sybil Cooper Douglas passed away, May 18, in Weiser. The 7th of 10 children, Sybil was born July 30, 1915 in Ballinger, Texas to Jasper and Alma Smith. On December 29, 1932, at the age of 17 the family began their move to from Texas to Idaho, arriving in Boise, January 22, 1933. Sybil wrote in her diary, "I'll never forget what I left for Idaho with - oxfords, overalls, overcoat, sweater, walking cane, thermometer, and a cow bell". Sybil was a 1934 graduate of Boise High School. In 1936 she married Jim Cooper. They farmed on south Cloverdale Road for several years before moving to a farm north of Eagle. They built and, for several years, operated the Golden Eagle Grill in Eagle. Jim and Sybil were divorced in 1962. She married Bob Douglas in 1964 and they made their home in the Ustick area of Boise. Bob passed away in 1991 and Sybil remained in Ustick until moving to Weiser in February of this year. She enjoyed visiting with her many friends and sharing stories of her life and adventures. Sybil was active in the Boise Chapter of the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) Alumni and was a member of the Ustick Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and five sisters and one grandson, Shawn Cooper. She is survived by a son and his wife, James Lavon and Sherrill Cooper of Lewiston, a daughter and her husband, Joyce and Joe Aubrey of Weiser, and step-son and his wife Kenneth and Helen of Jefferson City, Missouri. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren: Tim Cooper, Roben Cooper-Dixon, Shelley Thomas and husband, Albert, Brad Aubrey and wife, Ronda, Paul Aubrey and wife Stacy, Mike Aubrey and wife Darci, and Deborah and Roiann Douglas. Also surviving are 12 great-grandchildren, Zachary Cooper, Bailey and Tanner Dixon, Ryan, Tara, Rorie, Tyson, Chris, Casey, Dominic and Mackey Aubrey, and Collin Douglas. Services will be held at 3:00 on Friday, May 23, at Cloverdale Funeral Home, 1200 North Cloverdale Road. Burial will follow at Joplin Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at Cloverdale Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made in Sybils memory to the Ustick Baptist Church 14301 W. McMillan Boise, ID 83713 or Pathway Hospice, 323 W. Idaho, Ontario, OR 97914.
