birth place?

I found many census records for Thomas McAuley, McCauley, and McCullough born around 1875 to 1880 at http://www.familysearch.org, many of them born in Ireland and Scotland. Problem is that would make him around 45-48 when Grandma (Eileen) Golly was born. Does anyone know what year he was born and where? If I had some of that info I might be able to figure out who his parents were.
