Parrish Signs to play Softball at Georgia D-I
Eagles star utility player will continue as student-athlete at Savannah State U

After two excellent seasons at Kirkwood Community College, Chelsea Parrish will be continuing her student-athlete role in her home state of Georgia. Parrish has signed a national letter of intent to join the Savannah State University Softball program in the fall of 2010.

The Lawrenceville, Georgia native has re-defined the term “utility player” for the Eagles over the past two seasons. Head Coach Joe Yegge praised Parrish for her many accomplishments to the Kirkwood program.

“Chelsea was a great addition to the team the last two years. For getting her to commit only two weeks before school started in 2008, she was a great find! Chelsea has done everything that we have asked her to do. She has played third base, then first base. She was our designated hitter, then this year moved to catcher. Being named an All American her freshman year was also a great moment, and this year she has put up even better numbers while taking the beating of being an everyday catcher. We are truly going to miss her unique personality and desire to win next year. We are very proud of her and I think she will do a great job at Savannah State University,” Yegge said.

Parrish made her mark during her high school seasons at Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, GA. She won the school Coach’s Award in the 8th grade, then earned state honors and was the school’s Scholar Athlete her sophomore year. Parrish plans to take her Kirkwood Pre-Veterinary associate’s degree to Savannah State and complete her studies for a veterinary career.

Chelsea Parrish and the Kirkwood team have already built a season to remember. The Eagles stand at 47-3 overall and are likely amassing team and individual records for the college books.
