Hi there:
I've been researching Lady Alice Clifford Howard, and am fairly certain this father Charles (b. 1536) is correct.
If so, I'm somewhat certain she is a descendant of Edward I of England via:
Charles Howard, 1st Earl of Nottingham (1536 – 14 December 1624)
Son of William Howard, 1st Baron Howard of Effingham
Grandson of Thomas Howard, 2nd Duek of Norfolk
and thus a descendant of Edward I of England
I'm trying to track down some definite information on this. This makes a lot more sense than her father being Thomas Howard, son of the 3rd Duke of Norfolk, as is thought in some other Warriner family trees.
Sorry if this is confusing! I hope to hear back what you guys think
Sincerely,
Nathan Beach
Hi _ I'm glad to see that you've been looking into this. I've seen way too many people accept that Alice was the daughter of Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk. His children are too well documented and the dates don't make sense. I think taking the legend at face value is a mistake. It makes more sense that she is a descendant of other children. However, do you think it is possible that she is simply the daughter of William Howard, rather than the grand daughter? I think that the ages of William Howard and his wife Margaret Gramage make more sense (35-40) than the age of Charles Howard (15) when Alice would have been born. I realize many people were married at early ages but it does not appear that Charles Howard was married until his later years......
Thanks,
-H
I am a descendent of Chritiana Howard. I believe that this site and possibly Ancestry.com have 2 compleetely unrelated Hoard families mixed when they list the ancestors of Christiana Howard. I have seen an actual book written about John Howard in Bridgewater, MA in the 1600's. it doesn't list her as a daughter, yet ancestry .com gives him a wife named Mary and lists her with the other children. I am almost wondering if Christiana herself came over in the 1700's. My father told me the story of a female ancestor running away to this country to avoid a marriage she didn't want. Does anyone know anything about Christiana Howard. She married a Simeon Rowley and was born in 1728 in what is now Hartford, Connecticut. Hope to hear from you.
