Went by Kaz, (abbreviation for Charles in polish), Bates and Charlie. Was killed in action in the Pacific as a Private in the US Marine Corps. Was killed at 19 years old, on the same day as his brother Leo got married and then Leo and Jane Bazylak named their son after him...Charles Walter Bazylak.
Bates joined the Marines under the last name of "Bazlak" and has his name on a memorial plaque in Saipan. He is buried in a Braddock Cemetery in Braddock PA.
At one time, the majority of the Bazylak family actually went by "Bazlak", as it was seemingly easier for spelling and other folks to remember.
