This story is too frightening - but it actuallyhappened - and in
Bangalore !!

After our Grand Reunion at Yercaud I returned to Bangalore with my
brother George (Vacken). Last Saturday night he borrowed my car and went out
for dinner with a couple of his friends to Imperial Hotel. My car
(naturally) has a Kerala Registration and my Car Key Ring has a large
medallion of Jesus on it.

As George and his friends were about to leave they realised that the
car key was missing - they went out on to the road to look for it when
they were accosted by a hefty guy wearing a saffron scarf round his
shoulders and solid gold rings on all his fingers, and accompanied by
two or three henchmen. There was a group of policemen with an
Inspector at the scene, and a small crowd had gathered.

What happened next:

The Guy : Are you looking for the key with the "Dollar Christ " ?

George : Yes, have you got it ?

The Guy : Yes - Give me Rs.5000.00 !!

George: What !!!

The Guy : Rs.5000 !!!

George : That is my car key - I'm not going to pay you any thing.

The Police Inspector : Sir, Pay him Sir, Pay him, don't create a
problem.

After some talk , George took out a Rs.100.00 note from his wallet.

The Guy : You're not getting your key for Rs.100 !

The Police Inspector : Sir, Pay him Sir, Pay him, don't create a
problem.

After some more Hulla gulla, George gave the guy Rs.500 and got his
key back.

By this time the cops had realised that they were not dealing with an
outsider from Kerala as most of the arguments had been conducted in
fluent Kannada and it was clear that George and his friends were
influential locals. As the Guy and his henchmen walked away, George's
friend walked up to the Inspector and quietly whispered to him : " See
that guy there (pointing to George) - he's the Chief Secretary's
brother"

The Police Inspector promptly took out Rs.500 from his pocket and gave
it to George !!
