I think that is a good idea, I would hate for it to happen!!! Can you also download the images etc? Alternatively, can you upload via Gedcom? There are may times when I have time, especially during travel, but where there is no internet access, but I can add to my tree offline in Family Tree Maker.

Pieter
Upload gedcoms with care! If you add a large gedcom that includes lots of people who are already on the tree you end up with duplicates that have to be merged! So if you have sections to be added then either isolate that in a file to load or add them manually. That is how we built worked right at the start before we could use gedcoms and it was a lot simpler if time consuming - at least we didn't have thousands of merges to work!
Pieter I am hoping that you are not relying on what is on Geni as your main tree! Yu should have it all else where - I run Reunion on the Mac that is my real tree!
Yes you can download the images. James Houston McMillan downloaded ours and made a copy for me. He put in a fair bit of time matching the images to the profiles using a programme called " the complete family tree builder", to make the whole thing coherent. I'm sure you can upload as well. Geni have a help desk where you can leave a question and they will reply within about 24Hrs.
Hello June
I have all my stuff on Family Tree Maker 2010 [ I am a PC :-) ], but Geni is more fun. I can imagine the havoc a large GEDCOM upload can cause. I would rather upload small snippets of my main tree from periods when I work off-line, although a lot of my media has not been captured onto FTM

At the moment I am doing those uploads to FTM and Geni in duplicate, and to update FTM when Geni is updated is a painful process. Any good suggestions for a Gedcom merge program? I have heard of GenMerge but have no idea if it is worth getting.
The idea of updating through a sort of diff-merge process would be very good/time saving
Enjoy everything people. I had an early nite and find all these discussions to read when I start. What fun. Always puts the smile on my face.
Net die Engels lol so vroeg in die more - haha!
I also use a seperate family file that are on my harddisc on works off line, calles Legacy. A fantastic program that can is one of many free Family tree software on LDS (Latter Days Saints) site.
I bought the paid-up version of Legacy today after having played around with the standard (free) version. It is really a nice, solid program. I have imported a 750 000 Gedcom into it, and it did it without complaining once. I have tried it on a number of other programs, and they all crashed. Thanks for the advice
