Apologies, my intention was to write a quick note about Thomas Shepard, F.S.A.

Thomas owned a Tannery in Northampton (i.e. a business taking animal hides and making leather).

This is confirmed by Census records.

However, I heard that the tannery was destroyed by fire - and wanted to make a note to check.

Ah sorry, My mistake. I sent you another note in regard to your family tree, I'm not sure did you get it?

I found this page whilst trying to find out a bit more about Thomas Shepard. Passed down in my family is a book he made for my great great grandfather containing 32 beautifully painted coats of arms, done in 1909 when he was herald-painter to the office of arms at Dublin Castle. They are exquisitely done but I have not been able to find out much about the artist except what is in the dictionary of Irish architects for one of his sons, which says that Shepard had been a Major in the Northamptonshire Hussars, and on retiring from the army he became an assistant at the Office of Arms in Dubln.
