I have a Protestant Episcopal Church, Prayer Book and Hymnal that I received from my father with the Edith Virginia E., Age 12 written inside the front cover. The books were published by Oxford Press for Thomas Nelson and sons, New York, 1886 and 1891 respectively.

All her children were reared to be Episcopalians. I met them in the early 1960's and they were all Episcopalians. The one exception was Dad, who left the Church because, as he said, he saw his priest smoking a cigar.

I wonder what they were after growing up? I don't even know what an "Episcopalian" is.

An Episcopalian in the U.S. is a member of the Episcopal Church in the USA. Generically speaking, an episcopalian is one who believes that the bishops (episcope) should rule the church.

He became a Free Methodist because a Free Methodist minister, James Abbott, befriended him when he was in the Navy in So. California.
