After reading the historical register, I would agree with Laura that the evidence is strong. I would agree it should be changed.

@It don't totally add up. In the Dedham report, Richard Married Margaret Symson in 1586 and Samuel was born in 1587. He lived 67 years and died in 1654. The Samuel Morse in Geni was born on June 12, 1576 and died in Dec 5 1654, in Medfield, Norfolk, Mass. Samuel Morse in Geni married Margaret King who died in 1585 two years before Samuel was born in 1587. What am I missing??

There were obviously two Samuel Morse's. I wonder where there is a source for the baptism date for the son of Thomas is. The Register found the baptismal info for the son of Richard after the publishing of the Memorial of the Morse Family. That book gives his year of birth 1585 and origin of Dedham, England. It makes sense that a group from Dedham, England would name their new residence in Massachusetts Dedham. We have the one Samuel baptized in 1576 from Boxted, son of Thomas and the other baptized in 1586, son of Richard from Dedham, England. Although the Register said the age given in the Morse Memorial was erroneous. He died 1654 and 67 years from that is 1587.

Samuel, son of Richard, was too young to have married Elizabeth Jasper. The link doesn't list the source of information though. It lists another web page which has a 404 error. I think I found the source but Google Books only gives the snippet view:

It looks like they found some documents in relationship to Elizabeth Jasper to verify that she and Samuel (son of Thomas) both were married and are the ones who came to America. I am not finding where that information is. I would like to see the actual copy of the NEHGR to see what sources they list. Not that I am disagreeing with you Julian :) I would just like the actual sources listed. The Dedham register said that they did not have the baptismal dates connecting Samuel to Thomas but obviously those records must have been found since then. I doubt the NEHGR would publish baptismal and marriage dates without sources :)

I think it is still a subject of debate among varying genealogists. We need to have both options listed in the about me section of Samuel's profile. I wish there was a way to keep both choices for parents on the tree without having the conflict issue.

As far as Margaret King goes... she is the wife of Thomas Morse and mother of Samuel king b 1576. Don't even get me started on the relationship errors with the Morse wives :). Which the Pro users can now clean up. I haven't even looked at it since the changes were made.

It would be good if we had the primary source for Samuel. I am traveling and unable to look at this time. If you come up with anything let me know. Thanks for all you do, Laura.
