I see the fields are locked and this has been made a master profile but there is nothing documenting her maiden name as Stepp(e). She's my 6th ggm and I'm trying to get her info correct. Her Find-a-Grave gravestone photo shows her as Mariah Woods and her husband's bio states he married Miss Mariah Woods, not Miss Mariah Stepp(e0.

If there is proof her father was John Stepp(e), please share the sources, as I can't find anything connecting her to that surname.

Even though that document lists her as Maria, the gravestone shows Mariah.

Since she was the 2nd wife of Henry Gaines, I'm wondering if she had also been previously married and perhaps her first husband was where the Stepp name came from. One tree on Ancestry has it as Stipp instead of Stepp, but I'm still trying to find sources of where it came from.

Henry was married to Mariah Wood; Mariah’s first husband, John Stepp, died in 1750.
