Children: Since "Mary Bushrode" is listed as one of the people transported in a 1657 patent, it is thought by some that the patentee is her son by Capt. Thomas Hill and that she and Thomas Bushrod had married by the date of the patent (18 September).

One researcher states: 'From this I infer that Capt. Thomas Hill was the first husband of Mrs. Bushrod, and the other Hills their children, the son Thomas being the patentee.'[16]
Elmer Collier says 'I doubt that Capt Hill patented this land himself.... We know that John & Mary are children of Thomas and Mary Hill; the others may be their children or kin folks.'[9]
