Her PCC will is dated 2 Jan 1586 and proved 15 Jan 1586, from West Drayton. In it she uses "Awdrey" rather than Etheldreda, although her full name is used to formally identify her.
Her children listed are:
Charles Alleyne
Henry Alleyne
William Alleyne
John Alleyne
Christopher Alleyne
Gerard Alleyne
“My sonne Gerard and my daughter Marye his wife” (William Gerard?)
Ann Alleyne
Elizabeth Alleyne
*1 Neither Giles nor Frances are mentioned. However Frances was alive at this point and is listed as a recusant in the Middlesex QSRs on 31 Aug 1591 - "Francisca wife of Ferdinand Bawde gentleman", and Giles is listed as died in 1608. Their absence from the will is rather curious. Had they fallen out of favour?
*2 The curious phrasing of her will indicates a son called Gerard as well as a son-in-law called Gerard. In addition Gerard Alleyne is listed in the will as one of the executors, and again as Gerard Alleyne in the Probate section.
*3 “Charles Allyn inherited great wealth from his father. He was known to keep “a vile, papistical house,” but was left in peace until September 1585, when his house, especially Lady Alleyn’s chamber, was searched and members of the household were questioned.” Well, not really surprising as Her brothers Thomas and Charles Paget were movers and shakers in both the Throckmorton and Babington plots, Charles skipping to France in 1583, and Thomas one step ahead of Wallsingham’s men in November 1587, both dying in exile. She and others, including Frances’ and her husband Ferdinando Baud were also watched very closely.
