I think that Christian MacLeod’s parents were John MacLeod and Flora née MacLeod. Christian was born about 1809 in the Parish of Stornoway, Ross-shire, Isle of Lewis. She grew up at croft No.14 at Aird Tong, Parish of Stornoway. She married William MacLeod from Vatisker in 1828 and lived at croft No. 25 Vatisker. She died on 28 August 1872 at Vatisker. A death record image has already been attached to Christian MacLeod's Geni profile. I don't think her parents were Donald MacLeod and Margaret Cameron, and her name wasn't Catherine.
■Details of Christian's Death Record:
Christian (née MacLeod) MacLeod. Age 66. Died at Vatisker on 28 August 1872. Widow of William MacLeod, Fisherman. Parents: John MacLeod, Crofter, (dec’d) and Flora (née MacLeod) MacLeod, (dec’d). Informant: Son, Angus. SOURCE: National Records of Scotland, Statutory Registers Deaths, 1872, #088/ 112. (See ScotlandsPeople.com)

Family Tree Notes #7196:
“William MacLeod of 25 Vatisker was a son of Kenneth MacLeod and Catherine MacIver also of Vatisker. William MacLeod was married to Kirsty MacLeod, daughter of John MacLeod (#7280) and Flora MacLeod of 14 Aird Tong, with eight of a family.” It goes on to name William and Kirsty's children.
■“Tong: The Story of a Lewis Village.”, page 46, published in 1984 by the Tong Historical Society, mentions Christian's father John MacLeod (Captain), her mother Flora MacLeod and Christian living at No.14 Aird Tong:
“No. 14 John Macleod (Captain) 1771-1853.
Married to Flora Macleod. They were in Aird Tong in 1812.
Their family:
(a) Chirsty 1809-1872 married to William Macleod (Uilleam Choinnich) from Vatisker. Their family included Alex, later at 25 Aird Tong and others in the Point area.”
[Uilleam Choinnich - meaning William, son of Kenneth]
The book goes on to name other children of John MacLeod and Flora née MacLeod:
Catherine (died 1885), Donald (died about 1849) and a second daughter named Catherine (died 1892).
■ The name "Catherine":
All records found relating to Christian MacLeod, from No. 14 Aird Tong and No. 25 Vatisker, have her anglicised name as Christian, or its variants Christina/Kirsty/Chirsty/Christy, with only one exception: her son Alexander’s death record which has Catherine. These records include available birth, death, marriage and census records for herself and husband and children. Also, the death records of her two sisters, both named Catherine, have their parents recorded as John MacLeod and Flora. The recording of Christian's name as Catherine on Alexander’s death record, therefore, looks like it is an error. (Note, Catherine is not a variant of the name Christian/Christina/Kirsty/Chirsty/Christy.)
■The family of Donald MacLeod and Margaret Cameron:
I tried looking into the MacLeod-Cameron family from No. 5 Aird Tong to find their daughter named Christian or Catherine, to see what happened to her. I can't see any records for her.
These are the children I found for Donald Macleod 1782-1860 and Margaret Cameron of No. 5 Aird Tong. I haven't checked them out thoroughly.
“Children:
Malcolm - Married to Peggy Macleod of Guershader and moved to 14 Tong.
Mary - Married to George Finlayson and settled at No. 4.
Henrietta - Married to John Thomson, No. 20.
Angus - Married to Annie Macfarlane (Nighean Dhomhnuill Tharmoid) of No. 9 and later at No. 21.
Murdo - Married to Annie Mackenzie, daughter of John Mackenzie."
and probably a daughter Peggy born about 1825.
Does anyone have sources for a daughter Christian or Christina for this MacLeod-Cameron family? It would be good to clear up the confusion if possible.
Thank you
