I've detached Catherine Secord 1st wife of Daniel Secord, Sr. as daughter of Dirck Janszen Woertman, of Brooklyn Ferry and his wife Merritje Theunisse Woertman
She can be re attached if better sourcing is found.
These reasons:
- (Probably) not the same as Catherine Woertman (died young?)
- Not listed in the will of Dirck Janszen Woertman, of Brooklyn Ferry in 1694
- NOT dau. of Dirck Jans Woertman & Marritje NYSSEN or DENYSE per Workman family history by Thelma C. Anderson as THAT Catherine Woertman died young. See page 18. https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=wu.89062470125&seq=7
- Perhaps the daughter of Wynant Pieterszen van Ecke and [[Anneken Aukes Waertman Anneken Aukes Waertman] Anneken Aukes was the 2nd wife of Dirk Woertman.
My lingering questions:
- I have yet to find any primary records attesting to the name of Daniel's wife. 'All I've got is Ambroise Secord Sr. died about 1712. He left behind his 5 children. His son Daniel married a Dutch woman by the name of Catherine Woertman and they had several children including Daniel Jr." However, there are recent articles about the Sicord family in the NYG&B Record (subscription needed for more recent articles) with a theory (see below).
- The Anderson "Workman Family History" book is not well sourced; did Dirck have a daughter Catherine at all, and what is it based on?
- Was Catherine in fact not Dutch at all and confused by researchers with an English "Workman"?

There is an extremely well researched and sourced series that has just concluded in the NYG&B Record covering the early Sicard/Secord family in America (beginning Volume 150 Issue 1 and ending Volume 151 Issue 3). In this the author argues that Catherine is not the daughter of Dirck Janse Woertman and Marritje (Theunisse) Teunis since she was not named in Dirck's will. She was assigned to these parents by previous researchers because she and Daniel Secord were sponsors for a child of Denyse Dirckse Woertman The author suggests instead that she was not sister to Denys but rather a step-sister, and was in fact the daughter of Dirck's second wife Anneken Aukes and her first husband Wynant Pieterszen.
I do not so far understand this baptism, but that could be because the family of Denyse and his Geni wife Margaret Beekman is not built out on Geni.
