Hello, collaborators,
I just went through all the Alabama cemetery projects we have and made sure that they are linked as Related Projects to only the Cemeteries of Alabama subportal and not the higher-level State of Alabama portal or the Cemeteries, Memorials & Graveyards portal.
Connecting cemeteries to multiple portals defeats the purpose of having subportals and also severely clogs up the "Related Projects" lists on those higher-level/top-level portals, making them so huge that they often won't even load for many users.
So, please help by continuing to only add the Cemeteries of Alabama as a Related Project when working on Alabama cemetery projects, and not (re-)adding the State of Alabama or Cemeteries, Memorials & Graveyards projects.
Thanks so much!
As a reminder, here's the guideline from all of our state cemetery portals...note number two. Maybe we need to be clearer?:
Adding Cemeteries
To add a cemetery project to our list, simply click the "edit" link at the upper right of the list and type in the project's name. Geni will then automatically connect the projects to each other.
Two important practice notes:
- The only projects that should be listed in the "Related Projects" section are cemeteries in Alabama, the State of Alabama portal, and the Cemeteries, Memorials & Graveyards portal. Do not add other projects, even if related to Alabama or cemeteries in general.
- When adding "Related Projects" on cemetery project pages, do add a link to this project but do not add links to the State of Alabama portal or the Cemeteries, Memorials & Graveyards portal, as that as redundant and clogs up those portals' own "Related Projects" lists.
If we follow these two guidelines, we will maintain a clean, easy-to-browse list of Alabama cemeteries for all to use!
