Universities in the United States should not be linked directly to the University Portal. We have a long term portal for them:

https://www.geni.com/projects/Education-in-the-United-States/41530
which covers all educational institutions, organizations and professions.
You will see that colleges are then added geographically, not alphabetically, by state.
