Hi Pam yes I know the problem, you are facing I had that exact problem in finding my mother as my mum who lived in England met up with my dad who was American in the Second World War , and in 1946 mum followed dad , leaving me behind with her parents, who had me put into care,and no surprise forgot all about me , with no clue who I was it was DNA that sorted out the family heritage and found a living sister who lives in America plus found out my family history so don’t give up it took me a lifetime but I found who I was good luck with your serch

No one that I know of kept in contact with Guyana relatives. Recent family was in the Ohio, Pennsylvania and Canada area.
