"Littleberry Hicks, son of Daniel Hicks and Lucy Butler, lived near Elias Butler in Montgomery Co. NC. There are several instances of intermarriage between Hicks and Butler in these lines." per Bob Butler at https://www.ancestry.com/boards/surnames.hicks/2907.2925.1.3.2.1 from Rootsweb. <6 paragraph down starts Hicks--->

To understand ELIJAH HICKS who md. KIZZIAH KIMMONS it is best to study the files of Elijah’s father ROBERT V. HICKS and wife SARAH ANN JORDAN of Montgomery Co. NC who migrated to Hickman Co. TN and McNairy Co. TN.

ROBERT V. HICKS born 1770 VA or NC married SARAH ANN JORDAN born abt. 1774 Amelia Co. VA and they probably married in Montgomery Co. NC area as Sarah Ann Jordans father, FRANCIS JORDAN had died in 1780 in Montgomery Co. NC.( see Jordan files below ) :

Per the book, " COLONY of NORTH CAROLINA1765 - 1775
ABSTRACTS of LAND PATENTS
Hofmann, Margaret M.( 1984 )Volume Two :

Pg. 312 :( Patent Book 22 )
4124 pg. 165.WILLIAM JORDAN22 January 1773100 acres in ANSON on Cedar Creek E. of Little River, joining the bank of the creek near the river.

Pg. 317 :( Patnet Book 22 )
4186 pg. 180 FRANCIS JORDAN22 January 1773100 acres in ANSONon Dicks Creek E. of Little River, joining the Ridge on the Lower side of the sd. creek about a mile from the sd. River.

Pg.345 :( Patent Book 22 )
4581pg. 257FRANCIS JORDAN24 May 1773100 acres in ANSON on the N. E. side of great P. D. on the E. side of Little River, joining EDW. MORRIS.

( per these records it appears that two Jordans, one named FRANCISand one named WILLIAM both had land entries on January 22, 1773 in Anson Co. NC.Were they brothers, father and son or etc. ?We know later on that Francis Jordan had a son named William Jordan ( whom I've listed born abt. 1776 )as well ;but per my records, this son William Jordan was born abt. 1776 and was not yet born when the land was entered in 1774.

We also see that the HICKS family are then listed as HIX in Montgomery Co. NC 1790 Census below :

1790 Montgomery Co. NC Census :( HICKS/ HIX )

HIX, LITTLEBERRY12300
HIX, DANIEL20200
HIX, ROBERT11100

HIX, DEMCY12200

This is transcriptionof the 1790 Montgomery Co. NC Census showing both a LITTLEBERRY and a ROBERT HIX, who later on are in HICKMAN CO. TN as BERRY and ROBERT HICKS.

Here then is the other census data on this same family in McNAIRY CO. TN in the 1830-1840 era, and ROBERT V. HICKS is listed then as ROBERT HIX.BERRY HICKS may be the son of LITTLEBERRY HICKS who lived and died in AETNA, HICKMAN CO. TN.( not sure as I haven't researched the BERRY HICKS on the 1840 McNairy Co. TN Census shown below:

MORE FOLKS ON the 1830-1840 McNairy Co. TN Census were :

( next house to HARVEY LOVE DAVIDSON in 467 House) ROBERT V. HICKS listed then as ROBERT HIX on 1840 McNairy Co. TN Census. He is father of SARAH ANN HICKS who md. HARVEY LOVE DAVIDSON.SARAH ANN JORDAN is wife of ROBERT HIX/HICKS, thus mom to SARAH ANN HICKS DAVIDSON.)

ELIJAH HICKS born abt. 1803 NC is brother of SARAH ANN HICKS who married HARVEY LOVE DAVIDSON in Oct. 1830 ( probably married in Hickman Co. TN but they are found on the 1840 McNairy Co. TN Census living next door to her parents ROBERT V. HICKS and wife SARAH ANN JORDAN.)

Per TINA ROGERS BELLER FILES :

Themicrofilm records of Hickman Co. TN Pioneer article on April 9, 1880 which stated : ( microfilm courtesy of DORIS TREAT and SUE BUTLER ) :
