I'm not sure I understand the significance of this discussion, but I'll weigh in and hope I'm adding something of value anyway.

The modern day City of Emporia (which is today surrounded by Greenville County, Va) - owes its roots to the crossroads village of Hicksford (which was founded by Capt Robert Hicks, Indian Trader)...

Historically, in the time of Capt Robert Hicks - there were only 4 original shires - and from them counties - sometimes with independent cities, as well as smaller incorporated towns contained within them - were formed. Jurisdictionally a lot of boundaries change over the course of three or four hundred years - meaning that a lot of original sources refer to place names that may or may not still exist.

There was a Nansemond County at one point - it was later absorbed into what is today modern Surry County.

I can definitively say that the reference:

An Owen Myrick removes to the Three Creeks area of modern Southampton in the early 1700s… a few miles from the Robert Hicks and Arthur Kavenaugh properties at modern Emporia, VA. They were notorious Indian Traders.

Does in fact refer to Capt Robert Hicks... modern Emporia being roughly the same place geographically as "Hicksford" which doesn't exist today...

Donald Franklin Colvin thanks for dialoging!
