Geni tells me that I have 7375 merge issues that need to be resolved.
I feel sure that there are other major contributors who also have a similar, or possibly an even greater number of conflicts that also need attention, but they cannot do so without the full collaboration of those others who are also involved. I would therefore like to reiterate the content of previous submissions.
Although my own figure above includes a number with minor spelling differences or missing ascents (some of which I feel could easily be resolved centrally) the vast majority are where the other parties have for reasons best known to themselves, deliberately made their duplicate profiles private and show no intention of making them public to facilitate the merges which Geni would like to see resolved. The other parties often argue that Geni's present 150 year ruling, which I stress only gives them an OPTION of privatizing any deceased individual's profile (not necessarily a relative) legitimizes their ability to do so.
.
If Geni placed the onus for merging onto those other parties and notified them that the private profiles they had created had public duplicates, and as merging would be to the benefit of the website as whole, they should ask themselves whether their privatization was actually wholly necessary, my own 7375 merges would be considerably reduced
Presumably there are numerous others in a similar position.
