What is the current opinion regarding the Métis, and the Louis Riel Institute in Winnipeg, MB as a legitimate source?

This is a dictionary of biographies of the Métis, who I understand to be "a recognized Indigenous nation, descended from specific First Nations peoples and early European settlers", more specifically the intermarriage of European (French) men and Indian women.

I want to rule out that I'm dealing with a cult of sorts and confirm that the Metis Dictionary of Biography is a legitimate source of genealogic information. I ask because when creating a bibliographic entry for this website, there is a cautionary yellow symbol that advises the publisher cannot be confirmed, so this is presumably a self-published document.

And how does the discussion of the Métis fit into the larger discussion of North Dakota Chippewa and the Saulteaux First Nation of Southern Canada, who I understand to be essentially the same tribe, the boundary between the US and Canada being essentially a political entity created by governments not relating to the location and migration patterns of the native population?

I'm working on a profile of a person whose grandfather was French, and whose mother a Chippewa Indian, so as a descendant she is Metis AND Chippewa? How does that work?

I am Métis. And from Winnipeg. To my understanding she would just be Métis. Not Métis and Chippewa. Metis can be ojibwe or cree mixed with French/scottish/irish. You are correct about the North Dakota Chippewa and the salteaux First Nation being the same. I hope this helps
