Two pedigrees published by MyHeritage claim that Mary Leask, here treated, the wife of James Clouston, a resident of Waikaka in Southland, New Zealand, was born on 22 September 1826, at Evie in Orkney, Scotland. However, a record of a birth or baptism which was registered on this date cannot be found. Another four pedigrees published by MyHeritage claim that the same Mary Leask was born at Evie in Orkney on 14 October 1827, and that she was the daughter of James Leask and Ann Marwick there, but a birth or baptism registered on this date cannot be found. Moreover, there is no record of a daughter named Mary for James Leask and Ann Marwick.

In view of the uncertainty about the ancestry of Mary Leask I believe that she should be disconnected from the family tree of James Leask and Ann Marwick. Objections with unequivocal evidence would be welcomed.
