The Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project has over 500 members tested from FTDNA.com and about 37 from other DNA testing companies. We have documented about 128 unique genetic profiles or genetic fingerprints.

There is some 42 organized genetic groups, 1 semi-organized by basic Haplogroup (R-M269) called Group 98 and 1 catch all non-matching Group called Group 99.

Each of the organized groups have numbers 1 to 42 and each one has a different genetic profile aka a series of marker values linked to each Y-DNA marker. The numeric values compared to markers created a genetic profile or fingerprint.

We have used Y-DNA testing since 2002 to help untangle many Carpenter genealogical lines. This via genetic genealogy triangulation.

Group 2 represents the descendants of William Carpenter (b. abt 1610 Wiltshire England) who came to America in 1635 and who settled in Providence, Rhode Island. This is often called the Providence Carpenter line. We have over 26,000 descendants documented in the Carpenter Cousins Project.

Group 3 represents the descendants of the TWO William Carpenters who came to America in 1638 and the younger William (b. abt 1605 England) settled in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. This is often called the Rehoboth Carpenter line. We have over 90,000 descendants documented.

The genetic distance between Group 2 & 3 is THREE marker value differences at 111 Y-DNA markers. With a 37 marker Y-DNA test, there is one marker difference at that level of testing. This makes it easy to tell these two groups apart.
