Above I have attached the link to William Compton, of Woodbridge, and a link to a family obituary from 1921 stating the lineage to William Compton, of Woodbridge's father and ancestors.

The list in the attached obituary takes @William Compton, of Woodbridge back to William the Conqueror. Stating as follows

(NOTE: (There were two William Comptons, William Compton of Monmouth born 1631 and died in 1709, married to Mary ? Martin? Their children's names and their dates of birth differ from the children of WC of Woodbridge. PLEASE DO NOT CONFUSE THESE TWO)

William Compton of Woodbridge, Middlesex, NJ married Mary Wilmot in 1666 . William Compton of Woodbridge was born between 1622 and 1631 and died in 1694.
The children of William Compton and Mary Wilmot were:
1. Mary Compton b. 1667 - (first white child born in Woodbridge)
2. John Compton b. January 2, 1667 -
3. Sara Compton b. 7-25-1670 d. 9-16-1670
4. David Compton b 7-71-1671 d. 1694 - no heirs
5. Sara Compton. II - b 1673
6. Jonathon Compton b. 1674
7. William Compton, Jr. b. ? died 1694

(Cornelius and Richard supposedly belong to William Compton of Monmouth.)

Per the obituary attached: starting with William Compton of Woodbridge, and going back through his ancestors to William the Conquerer, his father is named as "SIR HENRY COMPTON" **********this is where a connection to the rest of the line needs to be solved. After finding this family obit, I have my theories BUT I WOULD LOVE THE INPUT OF OTHERS.

GOAL IS NOT TO FOLLOW THE PATH TO WILLIAM THE CONQUERER, THE GOAL IS TO FIND OUT WHO IS SIR HENRY COMPTON. HOW DOES HE FIT IN.

Sir Henry Compton, possibly Colonel Henry Compton WHO DIED d. 13 May 1652
Hon. Sir Henry Compton and Lady Cicely Sackville
Sir Henry Compton, 1st Lord Compton and Anne Spencer
Sir Peter Compton of Compton Wynyates and Lady Anne Talbot. son of Sir William Compton and Werburge Brereton*** see below for the rest of the Compton's - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compton_Wynyates

George Talbot, 4th Earl of Shrewsbury and Elizabeth Walden
John Talbot, 3rd Earl of Shrewsbury and Lady Catherine Stafford
Humphrey Stafford, 1st Duke of Buckingham and Lady Anne Neville.
Edmund de Stafford, 5th Earl of Stafford
Thomas of Woodstock, 1st and last Duke of Gloucester - Plantagenet]
Edward III, King of England and Philippe d'Avesnes
Edward II, King of England and Isabelle de France
Edward I 'Longshanks', King of England and Eleanor de Castilla, Comtesse de Ponthieu
Henry III, King of England and Eleanor of Provence.
and so on, see obit..

**** Continuing with the Compton, father of William Compton married to Werburge Brereton was

Edmund de Compton.
Robert de Compton died 1440

I thank you in advance.

He is not the son of John and Susanna

He was not born in Ipswich, Mass

William Compton of Woodbridge is not William Compton . (abt.1631-1709) of Monmouth County, nor is there any known relationship between the two. They are frequently conflated.

He is not the husband of Mary Martin.

Sir Henry Compton, II had a son Col. William Compton born 1606, which is too soon to have comfortably been the same person as William of Woodbridge. He was a legatee of his grandmother, Anne Spencer, in 1618, and left property:

tem, I give unto my grandchild, William Compton, all those my manors, lands, tenements and hereditaments which I have purchased within the county of Lincoln, to have and to hold to him and his heirs according to such uses, intents and purposes as are expressed and limited in a certain deed of feoffment and other indentures tripartite for the raising of eight thousand pounds for the portions of Cicely Compton and Anne Compton, likewise my grandchildren, and also to the other uses in the said indentures expressed, which said indentures bear date the nineteenth day of February in the fifteenth year of the reign of the King’s Majesty that now is of England, and of Scotland the one and fiftieth, one thousand six hundred and seventeen;

My suggestion would be to try and follow the property in Lincoln to illuminate what became of him and family, if any.

I believe this family had Catholic affiliations and Woodbridge NJ was settled by Puritans.

I did find where someone wrote he was born at Compton Wynyates, but I cannot find the correct sources.

I cannot prove this but for some reason, I think it is this Henry...
Henry COMPTON #1 under Children.... http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/COMPTON.htm#Henry%20COMPTON2

Father: Henry COMPTON (1º B. Compton)

Mother: Anne SPENCER (B. Mounteagle/B. Compton/C. Dorset)

Parents: Henry COMPTON Cecily SACKVILLE

Children:

1. Henry COMPTON (d. 13 May 1652, in a duel with George Brydges)

A death date of 1652 works with a birth of 1606, and again, would rule him out as William Compton of Woodbridge ... but not as a father of someone born about 1631.

It would have made him about age 25 if he had a son in 1631
