He was killed whilst hoeing someone's land. When hoeing with a bi dente (2 pronged hoe) men used to get in line and sing to a rhythm or song. Luigi stared singing in a bragging way adding or changing the words to declare that he was having an affair with the wife one of his long term hoeing (zuppa) colleague. The colleague got infuriated and before striking Luigi in the head with his hoeing tool (Bi dente), he said out loud something along the lines of "IT isn't bad enough you are having an affair with my wife for a long time but now you brag about it in front of all my work colleagues" and struck Luigi in the head with the Bi dente and killed Luigi instantly. Leaving Lianora Lacremosa, Luigi's young wife a widow with 3 children below the age of 10 years old.
