I don't think William is the son of Richard Taylor and Mary Ellen Taylor nee James.
William James Laurie was born in 1905, the son of Amy Esther and John Andrew Taylor.
He died in September 1927 after being dragged under a train at Thorndon station, Wellington.
His siblings were -
Maggie Irene Esther Taylor born 1899, Flora May Taylor born 1901, Ivo Cummerfield Taylor born 1907, Lester Hamilton Taylor born 1913.
