Wiliam Davenport and Robert Salemon Davenport were brothers, being the children of John Davenport 1482 – 1559 and Blanche Savage 1480 – 1529.

Robert “The Elder” Davenport had the epithet “The Elder” probably to avoid confusion with his son also called Robert Davenport 1558 – 1627. If he was the son of Robert Salemon Davenport, then Robert Salemon Davenport would be considered “The Elder.”
