Mrs. Dempsey Barnes may not be Sarah Dew
The assumption that Sarah Barnes wife of Dempsey Barnes was the daughter of John Dew, III and Elizabeth ‘Eleanor’ Dew evidently rests on John having a daughter named Sarah at his will in 1749 and Dempsey Barnes purchased land from John Dew Jr. in 1771.
Mrs. Sarah Barnes is the right age to be Sarah Dew and her father lived near Dempsey's in present-day Hertford County, North Carolina.
However, Dempsey's children share few names with the Dews (only John and Sarah) and have few interactions outside the purchase of land in 1771. Moreover, John Dew left for old Edgecombe County before his will was probated in 1759, while Dempsey and Sarah may have married as late as 1761/2 (depending on when their eldest son Joseph was born) and they didn't come to Edgecombe County until about 1771. It's possible they married before they left or even in Edgecombe, but it could very well be that Dempsey Barnes did not marry Sarah Dew daughter of John Dew.
I’ve detached her from parents based on this researchers comments.
