I have paid a bit of money to genealogists in Malta to get my family tree. I have found that the genealogists don't go beyond the records available from church records which end around the 16th century. The Adami Collection doesn't go much further back. So I restrict myself to the records available, but that isn't the case for others who use unreliable sources like Maltagenealogy. My paternal line, Muscat, ends in the 16th century, but Maltagenealogy claims to go to the founder, and for my Muscat line gives two branches for the same Muscat man, my ancestor. I reject both these, but others have used them and they are on my tree. It annoys to be polite, I could use other words. The same for claims of Turkish Ottoman ancestry. I don't understand why fill any family tree with ancestors that cannot be proven unless you are fluent in many languages and have a number of life times to do the research in many countries. I know that genealogists in Turkey are pretty annoyed by Maltese people claiming descent from their Sultans, some Maltese even trying to see the tombs of the many sultans in Bursa.
Stick to what you can prove or what can be proven to your satisfaction by professionals. I also don't understand why people claim descent from some of my ancestors when it appears bogus. The mission statement of having an interconnected family tree seems torn to shreds by these mistakes, and false genealogies.
That is all I will say on this matter.
