I have the Howell family bible. Rachel Howell was Sylvesters mother and the mother of his sister Hattie Lougenia. The Howell family were early settlers of Camilla Georgia. The Bible makes no mention of Sylvester's father.
Rachel later remarried a William Robert Bowen in 1876. He was originally from North Carolina, and had two daughters, Francis and Sally from a previous marriage.
