A few months ago, I was researching the Ramsay branch of the Laird, Parker, and Kemp family tree, and I came across a Colonel James K. Ramsay, who fought in the Revolutionary War from 1775-1783. His son, James Sample Ramsay, also had earned the title of Colonel, and might have fought in the War of 1812, but I'm still researching.
