I haven't seen anything validating that Allen had a first name or that it was Edward. He is always seen as Allen McDonald, as far as I've seen.
Additionally, the connections here on Geni have errors. The family info on Find-a-Grave and Wiki have different info for the parents connected to Allen.

My interest in these folks is that my son is a McDonald decendant on his dad's side, from the line of Alice (McDonald) Ingram. He and some cousins of his on Ancestry have at least a dozen DNA matches to folks whose trees seem to have copied from each other that they're descended on this line as connected here on Geni, which doesn't add up. The father connected here on Geni to Alexander Sells McDonald doesn't have a son named Alexander listed from any of his three marriages, all noted in his profile notes.
Just as I don't believe Allen was named Edward Allen, I don't think his father was named Alexander Sells McDonald. The Sells surname came into the line, as far as I've seen so far, from Allen's wife Susannah Sells and only then began to be used in the names of descendants.
There is nothing in the About section of the profile of Alexander Sells McDonald to validate the parental connections he has on Geni.

and his Find-a-Grave and Wiki pages have him born in 1768 in Virginia, not 1730 Scotland. In fact, these other sites show that Alexander and Hannah married 11 Oct 1798 in Jefferson County, Tennessee, which means if Allen's date of birth is correct here on Geni, he can't be their son.
This site doesn't go back father than listing Alexander's parents as Alexander I and wife Margaret Harrison, which concurs with Find-a-Grave and Wiki on that:

My guess is that due to lack of documentation to help sort things out, some same-named guys have gotten confused and misconnected.
I haven't figured out how the folks claiming Allen and Susannah as their ancestors connect to my son since their trees have the same errors I feel are connected here on Geni. I don't know who copied who, but things don't add up.
If anyone has better documentation or any other additional info to share, that would be great.
