I think I've found the answer to the Y-DNA haplogroup on my son's paternal Ingram line!
I was adding to my son's paternal line that includes the Lemuel Ingram who was married to Martha 'Patsy' Ingram on Wiki and their app asked if this Lemuel was a match to Lemuel Ingram from Tennessee. That's when the light bulb went off!
You can look upline for this Lemuel and see that his family migrated from SC to Georgia. This isn't the Ingram branch that went to Tennessee.
Geni is showing this Lemuel:
Born circa 1815
Tennessee, United States
BUT, in my Ancestry tree, the info based on my Ingram research is:
BIRTH ABT. 1806 • Franklin County, Georgia, USA
The two men were born in different years in different states.
I'm the one who built the profile here and I clearly had them mixed up, but so did whichever male descendant on the Tennessee line who added his Y-DNA to the Georgia line. All the male descendants from the Georgia line I know of in my son's family have tested to be I-M253
