Her curated notes state:
Parents unknown but not David B. Strickland (1733 - 1804) and Elizabeth Hunt.
To propose parents, please use the "Discussions" tab.
BUT she has parents connected. If they aren't proven to actually be her parents, that's giving speculative pathways on Geni that are going to end up copied into other trees and possibly perpetuate incorrect lineage for Rhoda.
I added these notes to her About section (found this info today)

Genealogical accounts, on line and in print, assert that John married Rhoda (or Rhoda Ann) Strickland and that she was the mother of all his children. No evidence is offered. That belief may be correct. However, all that is proved at this point is that he shared his home in 1850 with Rhoda. John executed no known document that names his wife and sold no land in Mississippi—an action that, under Mississippi law, would have required a wife’s relinquishment of her dower right.
The Sandels mistakenly propose (p. 17) that Rhoda was born in 1790—although the 1850 census states her age as 70 and other censuses are consistent. They state that Rhoda was “either a Strickland or a Slater,” and that her mother was said to be named “Holly Strickland.” They also proposed six children for “John Holly” Williams (p. 20): Neal, Elizabeth, Daniel, Isaac, Joel, and “Robert Nathan”—the latter double-name merging two separate individuals. On p. 26 they declare a seventh son John H., but provide no evidence for him, other than stating he was on the 1840 census. (No John H. Williams is enumerated in 1840—the only similar names are “John Williams” and “James H.” Williams.) On pp. 27 and 29, the Sandels propose an eighth child, William, stating that “Rev. William Williams [who] performed a wedding ceremony in Covington County in [on] May 26th, 1817 [was] the son of John Holly Williams b. 1767 and Rhoda Strickland” (despite the census placement of William’s birth at 1805). Numerous other individuals from the Crooked Creek and Topisaw Williamses are also
randomly proposed as children because they were “the right age.” Page 95 states “Mary ‘Polly’ Williams was born 1800 N.C. married Joel Polk, b. 1795, S.C.” but presents no evidence for Mrs. Polk’s maiden identity—only the statement: “There is some MILLS: Reassembling the Family of John & Rhoda Williams: A Proof Argument ……….….……... 26 September 2022

I don't know 'how' I'm related to Rhoda, but I'm a Strickland descendant myself and have a DNA match with a descendant of her son Joel on Ancestry. So even if her maiden name was Slater and her mother was the Strickland on the line, DNA indicates she is definitely a Strickland descendant.
Thank you so much for catching this, Debbie Gambrell! It looks like the "parents" were attached through a merge. I'll disconnect them.
I really appreciate the info you added to the "About," too.
Glad the info helped, Ashley. I just discovered that the DNA match I have with a descendant of her son Joel is actually via another line that isn't related to the Stricklands. That in itself doesn't prove that she's not a Strickland descendant, just that I don't have the DNA proof for it I thought was showing. Like so many trees, the DNA match on Ancestry had tree errors on their Strickland line.
I've been working on Geni, Find-a-Grave and Wiki to get the Strickland lines corrected as well. They're all related, of course, but that family did like using the same names repeatedly and it has caused a lot of confusion. Most folks seem to just copy from other trees and don't validate anything, so the errors keep spreading. I appreciate your efforts to sort Rhoda's family out, and so quickly!
