Johann Scheweithard Sunderlage, born in in Gross Mimmelage, Badbergen, Germany on 22 March 1804, immigrated to American in 1832 and worked on the Erie Canal. He returned to Germany, and in 1838, he returned to America in 1838 in the company of the Greve, Meyer, Ottman, and Schirding families.
They were the first settlers of Schaumberg, Illinois. Johann maried Catharine Adelhied Greve on 3 September 1838. In 1856, they had a large victorian style home built in Schaumburg, and it is still standing preserved by the Historical Society and known as the Sunderlage Farmhouse. It is in what is today Hoffman Estates.
