Removing relationship that "could split the tree."

The profile for @John Alexander Love John Alexander Love has James Love 1720-1800 as a son. This is unproven and is inconsistent with John Alexander Love's will (who is actually just Alexander Love."

I'm not sure I succeeded but tried to remove James Love's relationship to his parents. If I did, apparently I split the tree. I assume that means it will remove the relationship with his supposed siblings, but there's no record he had any.

What's the exact impact of splitting the tree in this specific instance and if I can't do it, who can help?
