Hi. I was looking for information about my maternal grandfather. I don't know where in Canada he lived but died on May 19, 1964 - Canada. His name was Johannes Mariapoika Savikko. It would be nice to know if he had family in Canada.

There are at least two Johannes Savikko who emigrated to Canada.

One arrived to Quebec 1926, he was born 1894.

His mother was Maria Emmanuelsdr. Savikko born 27.3.1855 in Haapajärvi (Haapajärvi 8 Purala) and died in Haapajärvi 25.1.1938.

Johannes was born in Haapajärvi 7.12.1890. He had three brothers and one sister, none of them had a father. Sister Anna Maria (Born 26.6.1884) moved to Tyrnävä in 22.5.1905.

Twin brother Niilo (7.12.1880 - 21.2.1932) lived in Haapajärvi and was married to Anna Kaisa Törmälä (b. 25.10.1877 d. 21.2.1857) but as far as I know they did not have any children.

All other brothers died as an infant.

Jaakko was a fourth cousin to my grandfather.

In America, there is a person named Johannes Savikko who crossed the border from Canada to the United States at Niagara Falls on 12.4.1937. The person's age was 47, which means they would have been born in 1889 or 1890. Below you can see that he arrived in Halifax, Canada, in 1927 (possibly 12 February, the text is somewhat unclear) on the SS Frederik VIII. The ship sailed between Copenhagen, Oslo and America from 1914 to 1936.

Syntynyt 7. joulukuuta 1890 - Haapajärvi, Suomi
Kuollut 19. toukokuuta 1964 - Kanada, ikä kuollessa 73 vuotta vanha.
