The Ludoma Private Hotel was built, owned, and operated by Lucy M. Hauenschild and her husband, August.
The Hotel was located on the beach end of Cavill Avenue in Surfers Paradise.
Lucy had two daughters Doreen and Marjorie. The name of the business was derived from the first two letters of each of their names: LUcy + DOreen + MAjorie = LUDOMA.
Ludoma was opened as a private hotel in 1938 and operated until 30th April 1950 (11 years).
(See: The Courier-Mail, Saturday 6 May 1950, page 11.)
Lucy Hauenschild handed over the business to her eldest daughter Vivienne who was a nurse.
(See: South Coast Bulletin, Wednesday 10 May 1950, page 1.)
The building re-opened as a private hospital and (I think) operated until 19 July 1956 (5 years).
Apparently, Matron Hauenschild was killed in a car accident on her way to visit her sister (but I could not find details).
After Ludoma closed, it was reopened as the Edgewater Private Hotel.
