Biography
William was born about 1830. His parents were Peter and Martha Duckworth. He was christened on 19 Dec 1830 at Brereton-cum-Smethwick, Cheshire.[1]
In 1841, when he was 11 years old, he is living at Brereton cum Smethwick, Cheshire with his parents, Peter Duckworth (30) and Martha (30). His sibling are Joseph (9), James (7), Sarah (6), Emma (4), George (3), Allen (1). Also living with the family are Sarah Duckworth, age 63, who may be his grandmother, and Joseph Duckworh (35). Two other people living with the family are Joseph Robinson (5) and George Barnett (11). [2]
In 1851, when he was 21, he was a servant living with the family of Thomas Haywood at Davenport, Cheshire[3]
William Duckworth and Sarah Thorley married in1854 at Congleton, Cheshire.[4]
In 1861 he is married to Sarah. He is 30 years old and a coal miner living in Odd Rode, Cheshire. He has children James 4, Levi 3 and Hannah 1. His brother Joseph, a carter aged 20 is also living with them.[5]
William and all of his family changed their name from Duckworth to Robinson in the early 1860s. Robinson was the name of maiden name of William's paternal grandmother. The reason for the change of name is not known.
In 1871 William Robinson age 40, a gardener born at Broxted, Cheshire, lives with his wife Sarah Robinson, age 38. Their children are James Robinson (14) and working as an Engine Cleaner, Levi Robinson (13), a Boiler Maker Apprentice, Peter Robinson (9) and Joseph Robinson (6). The two younger children are still at school. The three older children were born at Mowcop, Cheshire, and Joseph, the youngest, was born at Tranmere, Cheshire. The family were living at 10 Cobden Street, Tranmere, Cheshire[6]
William passed way in 1896, age 65.[7]
