I have Blanche married to Sir William Stanley c1380 - d 1428 son of Sir William Stanley b c1362 - d Feb 1428. Both died in the same year.

Blanche appears to have been the daughter of Sir John Ardern Kt., 1300 - 1349 who married Ellen Arderne (Wastenys) 1318 - 1349

An extra generation seems to have been inserted here, with Blanche ostensibly the grand-daughter of Sir John and Ellen Arderne and the daughter of Sir Thomas Arderne and Katherine (Stafford) Arderne.

Clearly there is a missing generation between Sir John Arderne and Alice de Venables and Blanche Arderne.

How confident can we be that Peter Arderne and Cecily de Bredbury are Blanche's parents?

Is there any reference that definitely confirms this?

I’ve been puzzling at Blanche Arderne a dozen years now, and I like this construction (daughter of Peter & Cecily) better than any other I’ve seen. Why? What struck me today is that she’s shown as sister of Hugh, and Hugh is confirmed as son of Piers. She’s cited by Earwalker & Ormerod in this position also, I believe (see other discussion).

Is there a primary source to confirm? Not that I’m aware of. But that’s not something I necessarily expect in the tree; it’s about the Genealogical Proof Standard, and what medievalists working today have to say. Two I respect - Nancy Lopez & Hal Bradley - place her there.

Hello Erica,

I think now we can be fairly confident that Blanche is the daughter of Peter Arderne and Cecily de Bredbury. I have also been discussing the identity of Margery verch Gruffydd with Darrell Walcott of the Ancient Wales web-site, and he has come round to the view that she is genuine. He was sceptical at first. I have also linked Sir Peter Arderne to my Davenport lineage which is excellent.
