I believe that Elizabeth's last name has some spelling issues created by the people who kept the records in England. Spelling was never their forte. They went from speaking and writing the Latin language to the beginnings of the English language.
Examples: sister is spelled syster
In one single visitation they spelled the name William Usborne, but spelled the first born son's last name as Osborne, while they spelled the 2nd son as Usborne. So this means in England, we can NOT depended on the spelling to be accurate or repetative.
I come from Thomas Osborne b. 1594/5 and Mary Goatley. Her father is Peter Goatley that married Mary Smyth. They were from Ashford, Kent, England. Mary's sister is Elizabeth that married Edward Osborne.
The name Goatley and Goteley is one in the same. As I said, spelling was not always accurate by those who recorded the information in England.
