Vol 1 deals with the value conflicts of his day, esp. between Science and the Biblical description of the Creation. The author begins by stating that the Torah is not intended to be used as a scientific document. This goes against a fundamentalist reading that sees it in conflict with scientific discoveries. Quite the opposite! The marvels of creation as expressed in Science, are a spiritual inspiration. Indeed he sees hints within the Biblical text that show that the universe is an a continuous process recreation.
