Phillip Y Aurty
Wikitree https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Autry-322 says:
1 Marriage to Nancy Pharis
2 Marriage to Elizabeth Culbreth (?)
3 Marriage to Clara Bedsole
And has a Will of Newsom Autrey, Sr of Cumberland County
Gives her 10 children:
Marriage Bond for Usum Autry and Nancy Pharis, 17 Jun 1803. The state of North Carolina used the bond date as the marriage date.[3]
From this first marriage to Nancy Pharis, they had the following children:
Jane Autry (born 1803)[2]
Iruth Iaruth Autrey (born 1804)[2]
Margaret Autry (1804-1869)[2]
William Henry Autry (1808-1878)[2]
Newsom Autry (1809-1880)[2]
Mary (Autry) Williams (1812-1880)[2]
Nancy Autry (1813-1870)[2]
John Autry (born 1816)[2]
Charlotte Autry (1817-1891)[2]
Sally Autry (born 1818)[2]
"From his second marriage (no record has emerged), to Elizabeth Culbreth, no known children. NOTE: An argument can be made that this Elizabeth who married a Newsom Autry was actually Newsom Autry Jr, but more likely his 1st cousin, Newsom Autry (abt.1761-abt.1828), of the same name. Presently, other profiles are in need of review to see if records can establish this. The Bundy text refers to Clarry Culbreth, which appears to be a conflation of people: the only identifying record that establishes Clara's origins is a death record of one of the children (Marshall Thomas Autry, below listed)[4] which names her as Clara Bedsole (not Culbreth). HOWEVER, one source says that Elizabeth Culbreth, daughter of Neil and Martha (Autry) Culbreth married as first cousins, and discusses that both Newsom and Elizabeth were deceased by May 1828, at which time a Sampson County, North Carolina court divided land of Neil Culbreth, with portions going to the heirs of Newsom. Again, Newsom Autry has a first cousin of the same name who married Elizabeth Culbreth.[5]"
Marriage to Clara Bedsole
From his third marriage, the main record that emerges is the 1850 census record, which does show Clara with Newsom and the below children,[6] and the death record of Marshall Thomas Autry that shows both parents:[4]
A Moriah Autry (1827-1898)
Calvin Stephen Autrey (1836-1861)[2]
Clarissa Claskey Autry (1840-1930)
Marshall Thomas Autry (1842-1919)[2][4]
Isaac B Autrey (1845-1865)[2]
Note that Moriah and Stephen were not named in the will, which is a curiosity.
Newsom[5] (Jr?) and his family migrated to Tennessee, but this appears to be a different (probably cousin) of the same name.
Newsom Autry is buried in Neil Culbreth Cemetery, Roseboro, Sampson County, North Carolina,[1] but this is an unconfirmed match as the vital dates appear to apply to a probable cousin. The Bundy (1996) text places Newsom's death date after his 12 Jul 1853 will.[2]
