Nothing known about her life before she and her husband John King moved to Chedder Valley - by Coastal Steamer, from Hawera to work for Mr. Fred Wilkie, housekeeping, and John King as a Laborer, for several years. They then shifted to Kutarere where they ran a boarding house. This was an overnight stopping place for coach travelers on route from Waimana to Whakatane and further afield, to Opotiki and Gisborne etc. Rua, the Maori Chief was a frequent visitor, often with several of his many wives. From Kutarere, the Kings made a shift to Whakatane in the late 1930's to again run a boarding house for several years, before retiring to pursue her many interests, Caledonian Society, Womens Institue and Mary Shapley Home, of which Caroline was a foundation member. She had a trip to Scotland in 1953.
