Concerning the ancestry of Sir John C. Stewart. He is presently identified as that son of Thomas Stewart and Barbara Barns, whose baptism was registered at Glasgow on 16 April 1612. This seems extremely unlikely, however, because the child who was born in 1612 was the second of three children with the same name who were born to this couple. One, as already noticed, whose baptism was registered on 16 April 1612, a second whose baptism was registered on 8 May 1617, and a third whose baptism was registered on 2 January 1627. It is not impossible that all three children survived into adulthood, but evidence which might support such a claim is wanting. Much more likely, or so it seems to me, the first two children probably predeceased their youngest sibling. The eldest dying before 8 May 1617, and the second dying before 2 January 1627. In view of this I would suggest that Jonet Wilson’s husband should be disconnected from the family of Thomas Stewart.
