Tiedustelin Family Tree DNA:lta miten BigY-500- ja BigY-700-testi eroavat toisitaan, kun sillä määritellään löydettävien mutaatioiden etäisyyksiä
toisiinsa.
Miten tiheästi tai harvaan niitä keskimäärin syntyy?

BigY-500-testi löytää mutaatioita keskimäärin erään arvion mukaan noin 120 vuoden välein. Toisen arvion (Family Tree DNA) mukaan noin 144 vuoden välein.

BigY-700-testi löytää mutaatioita keskimäärin Family Tree DNA:n mukaan noin 83 vuoden välein.

Thank you for contacting FamilyTreeDNA. With the Big Y-700 we see a new mutation every few generations or so, or on average every 83 years. With older Big Y-500 I believe it was something like a new SNP every 144 years, on average, but the Big Y-700 tests twice as many again SNPs as the older version so the average number of years between new mutations on the haplotree is lower.

While the estimate of 83 years between new mutations is based on the average mutation rate, this is still just an average and the actual number of generations between new mutations can vary. It's not impossible or unheard of for a son to have a new mutation in the next generation after his father just had one or for there to be hundreds of years with no new mutations appearing on the haplotree.
